HELP
Search
When searching for a term you can substitute an asterisk (*) for none (0)
or multiple characters and space characters. You´ve got to use at least two
characters along with the asterisk.
For example, if you enter a* in the search field you get no result, but if you
enter a*a in the search field the program displays all terms beginning and
ending with a.
A question mark (?) can be used to substitute one character or space character.
There's no distinction made between lowercase and uppercase. By fuzzy searching
you can find misspelled and transposed search terms.
Source Language
You can only search in one source language at a time.
You select the source language from the source language drop-down list box.
The program displays your selection at the top of the list.
To select source language:
Click the scroll arrow at the right of the box to open the box.
Click the language you want to select.
Index
You select the glossary you´re looking for from the index list box.
To select a single item in the list:
Click the scroll arrows until the glossary you want to select appears in the
list box. Click the glossary. To select multiple nonsequential items in the list:
Press and hold down CTRL, and click each glossary you want to select. To select multiple sequential items in the list: Click the first glossary you want to select, and then drag the cursor to the
last glossary you want to select.
List of Matches
When the search results in two or more matches the program displays a list
of the matches, ten the most at one time.
The displayed list is composed of primary terms and their translations, and/or
synonyms with reference to their primary terms.
If the search results in eleven or more matches a message is displayed where
the user is led to the next batch of words in the list. (Display following
matches?)
For more information about a match in the list you click it and the program
displays the lemma with all information available.
About the Glossaries
At the top of the record of each term its source (e.g. title of glossary)
is displayed.
Click the title to go to the glossary´s web site.
Mailbox
Following the title of each glossary the editor´s e-mail address is displayed
(in brackets), and if need be the user can send his questions or remarks
directly to the editors by e-mail.
The e-mail address of the editor of the Icelandic Word Bank is at the top of
the web page.
